A two days workshop on “Contemporary Legal Issues in India
The School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun organized a two days workshop on “Contemporary Legal Issues in India” on 3 May, 2018. Prof. Manjula Batra, former Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia Central University, New Delhi was the Expert Speaker at this workshop. Expert lectures on Violence against Women, Sexual harassment at workplace, POCSO and relationship between Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles of State Policy were delivered by the expert. More than 100 students and faculty members participated in the workshop. Students and faculty members were distributed certificates of participation. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks given by Prof. Raj K Dhar, HOD, School of Law.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Avi Vatsa, President, Youth for Human Rights International on the various aspects of Human Rights and their protection through International Covenants and National measures. An insight into the background of human rights, its evolution through the various charters, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its relevance today.
Justice Sudhanshu Jyoti Mukhopadhyaya, former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, New Delhi was the distinguished guest at the University for National Seminar held on December 2-3, 2016 which was organized by School of Law.

National Summit on Digital Judiciary- Smart Solutions on 6th May 2018
‘A National Summit on Digital Judiciary- Smart Solutions’ was organized by Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun in association with the Computer Society of India, Division-I Systems, CSI Dehradun Chapter and Institutions of Engineers( India), Uttrakhand State Centre, Dehradun on 6th May 2018 at GEHU Campus from 9.30 am to 05.00 pm .
This summit focused on disseminating awareness of the use of Smart ICT initiatives in building a smart Judiciary and Smart Law enforcement Agencies for serving the interest of litigants and the general public in the most effective manner.
Hon'ble Justice Sunil Ambwani, Former Chief Justice Rajasthan High Court and Former Chairman e-Committee, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi addressed the Summit as the Chief Guest. Additional Director General of Police Sh. RS Meena was the Guest of Honour. Welcome address of the Summit was given by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Jasola. Smt. Ridhim Aggarwal SSP, Special Task Force, Uttrakhand State Dehradun and other ten eminent experts made their technical presentations at the Summit. More than 150 students and faculty members from GEHU, GEU and other institutions participated in the Summit. The summit ended with a Vote of Thanks given by Prof. Raj K Dhar, HOD, School of Law, GEHU, Dehradun.
Two Days’ International Model United Nations (IMUN)
Two Days’ International Model United Nations was held at Graphic Era Hill University under the supervision of School of Law, from 21 April -22 April, 2018. A large number of delegates from many parts of the country represented their Universities, Colleges, and Schools. Their presence contributed to the grand success of International Model United Nations. The students of School of Law worked untiringly as delegates, some as volunteers and organizers to lend their helping hand to the event. The International Model United Nations was held under four committees:
1. Lok Sabha
2. All India Political Party Meet
3. United Nations General Assembly
4. United Nations Human Right Council
The first day of International Model United Nations started with the inaugural session. The speaker of Vidhan Sabha, Uttrakhand state, Sh. Prem Chand Aggarwal was the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honour was Vice-Chancellor of Graphic Era Hill University Prof. Sanjay Jasola and Dr. Arjumand Zaidi President, Youth for Human Rights India.
In his address to the delegates and guests Sh. Prem Chand Aggarwal spoke about the relevance of United Nations in resolving the international issues, peacefully. He urged the students to organize such meaningful events so that they are able to create awareness of the National and International issues which require a wider public opinion.
Prof. Sanjay Jasola congratulated the students and organizers for organizing an event of this magnitude. He said that today’s members of International Model United Nations would be tomorrow’s leaders and therefore they must have a point of view in all matters concerning the National and International affairs.
Dr. Arjumand Zaidi informed the delegates about the steps taken by youth to fight against the atrocities committed against women and children. She also urged participants to fight the evil of Human Rights violations.
The best delegate from each committee was given a cash prize of Rs. 3000 and a certificate. The Executive Board Members consisting of legal experts were also felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor.
It was an excellent learning experience for the students and delegates.
Constitution Day at Law School
School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, celebrated Constitution Day on 26th November, 2017. Former district judge and present Chairperson Mr. R. C. Kukreti, , and Former District Judge, Uttarakhand was the expert speaker . He spoke on the procedural aspects of Criminal Law. He also motivated the students to follow the noble ideals enshrined under Part IV A of the Indian Constitution as Fundamental Duties. Mr. Kukreti also gave away the prizes to the Winners of the Inter Department Debate Competition, “Paricharcha”- 2017 held on the 24th and 25th November, 2017.
LEX FEST- 2017
LEX FEST’17 that is “The Department Day” for School of Law was observed on 19th May, 2017 wherein the students showcased their knowledge about the various aspects of Law and Legal Issues and attempted to create awareness among all. There were three Competitions: Poster Making,Rangoli Making and T-shirts Painting. Students of various departments like B.Sc. (Maths) (Hons.), Management, BA (Journalism and Mass Communication) participated to make the event a success.
Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Sir graced the occasion by presenting the awards to the winners.
Celebration of Birth Anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar
The 126th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the Father of Indian Constitution was celebrated by the School of Law at Graphic Era Hill University. On this auspicious day, the students and the faculty members paid their homage to this eminent scholar of Law.
BANGLADESH SUMMER SCHOOL+
Mr. Ashish Badoni (9th Semester) and Mr. Mohd. Tasir Ali (5th Semester) both Students of School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun have participated in Summer School on Human Rights From 1st July-5th July, 2018 at Daffodil International University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Summer School served as platform for delegates from various countries to come forward and learn about protection and enforcement of human rights in their respective countries. The content for Summer School was developed by experts of human rights from various countries. The School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun is committed to develop in the students a sense of responsibility towards society through professional exposure. Ms. Simran Sharma and Mr. Mohd. Muzzamil, both students of BB.A.LL.B.. VIII semester have won the Zonal round of CHIMERA X, a National Level Quiz Fest organised by ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) Students' Chapter in collaboration with MANIT (Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal) held at Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Dehradun on 2 February, 2019. School of Law celebrates the constitution Day
The Constitution plays a meaningful role in the life of every Indian. It not only establishes the rule of law, but also ensures that every citizen lives with the same rights, privileges and responsibilities as any other. In this background, 69th Constitution Day or “Samvidhan Divas” was celebrated by the School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun on Monday, 26th November, 2018 in Prof. K.P. Nautiyal Auditorium of the University. On this day in 1949, Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India which later came into effect on 26th January, 1950. Previously this day was celebrated as “Law Day.”
Prof. (Dr.) Raj K. Dhar, HOD, School of Law in her welcome speech highlighted the importance of the Constitution. Chief Guest of the occasion Hon’ble Prof. (Dr.) R.C. Joshi, Chancellor, Graphic Era Deemed to be University in his address threw light on the significance of celebrating the Constitution Day. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era Hill University Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Jasola, stressed the need to follow the principles enshrined in the Constitution in its true letter and spirit. Inauguration ceremony was followed by series of events like Debate, Skit and Quiz competition.
FRESHER’S PARTY, 2018-19
School of Law at Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun organized its Fresher’s party on Friday 24th August, 2018 for their fresher’s. It was a colorful occasion which began with energetic performances by seniors and smiles all along. Among all the youngsters Ms. Lovi Mehta (Ms. Fresher), Mr. Shrey Painuli (Mr. Fresher) and Ms. Yashmita Pandey (Ms. Spark) and Mr. Divyansh Chauhan (Mr. Spark) were declared as winners by the judges on the basis of question answers round, dance and singing round. Joy and happiness could be seen on all faces and it ended with foot tapping music.

Guest Lecture by Justice Rajesh Tandon Chairman of Uttarakhand Law Commission
Justice Rajesh Tandon, the Chairman of Uttarakhand Law Commission shared success Mantra with Law students at Graphic Era Hill University. Justice Rajesh Tandon, the Chairman of Uttarakhand Law Commission and Former Judge of Nainital High Court interacted with the students of Law at School of Law in Graphic Era Hill University.
His Lordship was the chief guest at the Induction ceremony of Law students. Justice Tandon delivered an interesting and informative talk on Constitutional Law and Human Rights. Justice Tandon also spoke about the environment protection laws, especially in regard to Uttarakhand. He urged law the students to have a detailed knowledge of Indian Constitution and judicial pronouncements. He said that those students who are aspiring to join judicial service have to work hard and imbibe comprehensive knowledge of all laws, for those who wanted to pursue a career in litigation have to inculcate public speaking skills, debating skills and knowledge of laws. His Lordship emphasized upon the importance of maintaining professional ethics in all their dealings.
School of Law organized an 8 hour Mock Parliamentary session, MOCATHON under “OMNITHON-2018
School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun organized an 8 hour Mock Parliamentary session, MOCATHON under “OMNITHON-2018” on 17th of November, 2018. The entire proceedings of the Parliament took place from 9:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M. The Parliamentary proceedings witnessed lively debates on the three bills tabled in the House which were:
Bill No- 1. The Entry of Women (All Ages) to Sabrimala Temple Bill, 2018
Bill No- 2. The Prohibition of Instant Triple Talaq Bill, 2018
Bill No- 3. The Construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya Bill, 2018
In the voting procedure, all the three bills were passed with the two-third majority of the house. Total 80 students of the School of Law registered and participated in the event and took part in the discussion. Very cogent and relevant arguments were put forward in favor and against the motion. It was indeed a great learning experience in Parliamentary procedures for the students and the audience.
Speaking on this occasion the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Jasola appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee of School of Law and congratulated the students and the participants for organizing the event of this magnitude. The event was judged by Mr. Abhishek Verma, Senior Faculty of Graphic Era Deemed to be University.

Workshop on “Judicial Activism in India”
One day Workshop on “Judicial Activism in India” was concluded at School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun on 14 February, 2019. Expert speaker of the workshop was Prof. Manjula Batra, Former Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia Central University, New Delhi. Topics like basic structure of the Constitution, prisoners’s rights, environmental degradation, triple talaq, homosexuality and 498-A were discussed by the expert. 120 students and faculty members of School of Law participated in the workshop. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks given by Prof. Raj K Dhar, HOD, School of Law.
