Highlights

The Department of English organised a wonderful farewell “AMIGO 2018” for the students of BA (Honours) English (2015-18) Batch on 18thMay 2018. The event was marked by a variety of events thoroughly enjoyed by the students and made their evening memorable.

Creativity knows no bounds and the same was demonstrated on the occasion of an Open Mic Competition that was organised by the Department of English on 28th April, 2018. Students from all disciplines were welcome to be a part of this competition and their enthusiasm was beyond all expectations.

On the occasion of Matrabhasha Diwas on 21st February, 2018, a fitting tribute was provided to all the beautiful and varied languages of our country by the students of BA(honours) English as well as students from other departments like the Department of Law. The students recited poems and songs in varied languages like Hindi, Garhwali and Bengali.

Literarision

The Department of English organized an event named, Literarison on 20th August, 2019. The department aims at inculcating human values amongst the students and theatre is one of the means which helps giving expression to all the sensitive social issues of our society, and thus making the students sensitive towards the same. The event included a lot of cultural performances as well.

Induction (Batch 2019-2022)

The Department of English organized an Induction program to welcome the students of B.A English (H) and M.A English. The enthusiasm of the newcomers was commendable. We wish them all the very best for their fuure endeavours. 

Skit Competition

Department of English, Graphic Era Hill University organized a skit competition on November 19, 2018. The objective of this skit competition was to enchance English language skills of the students through the medium of theatrical performences. Prof. Sanjay Jasola, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era Hill University graced this event with his kind presence and motivated the students.

Women's Day

‘A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.’

To commemorate ‘Blooming Success in the lives of women ’, Department of English, Graphic Era Hill University celebrated the essence of womanhood on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The Guest of Honour, Smt. Vinod Uniyal Ji, Member of Government of India’s Ministry of Power’s Hindi Advisory Committee (HAC) graced the occasion. The other Honourable guests were Smt. Shakuntala Jangwan, Former State Vice-President, BJP and Smt. Vandana Thakur, Coordinator, Olumpus High School.

Dastaan- The Three Day event came to an end with celebrating the womanhood!!

A prominent author and Tibetian activist, Mr. Tenzin Tsundue was invited by the Department of English on 9th April 2018 to conduct a workshop on ’Creative Writing and the Intrinsic Process of Writing’. The students of BA (Honours) English found the workshop highly enthralling and informative and look forward to more such hands-on workshops in future.

The students of BA (Honours) English were escorted by their faculty members to be a part of the WIC India Dehradun Community Literature Festival 2018 on 20th April, 2018. The visit provided an opportunity to the students to interact with some of the best contemporary authors of the country.

A two day Interdisciplinary Workshop on Understanding Gender for Empowerment and Change was organised by the Department of English on February 5th and 6th 2018 by the Department of English. The occasion was illuminated by the presence of Dr.Divya Saxena who opened a whole new realm of thinking for the students of BA(honours) English by her revolutionary thought processes.

Keeping abreast with the modern nuances of literature, the Department of English organized a workshop on micro-fiction-Terribly Tiny Tales presided over by the co-founder and CEO of TTT Mr.AnujGosalia and Mr.Chintan Ruparel on 25th August 2017. It gave the students of BA (honors) English an opportunity to learn the art of micro-storytelling and also get certification for the same.

Visit to LBSNNA

Department of English, Graphic Era Hill University leveraged an academic excursion to The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. It is a research and training institute on public policy and public administration in India. The objective of this visit was to give exposure to the  students of the department.

Valley of Words

The students of the department of English were given an opportunity to become active members of an international literature and arts festival, Valley of Words, 2018. The students were priviliged enough to interact and interview some of the most prominent contemporary authors of the time.

To incorporate different facets of the teaching-learning process of literature, the Department of English organized a book reading session by Ms.Nitin Jugran Bahuguna, author of “Comet in the Village” on 22nd August 2017. It was an altogether enriching experience for the students of BA (honors) English as well as Mass Communication students.

The Department of English organised a guest lecture by Prof.Rukmini Bhiyya Nair(PhD, Cambridge), Professor, HSS, IIT Delhi who spoke on Kazuo Ishiguro’s writing and what made him win the Nobel Prize. The lecture was highly appreciated by the students and faculty members. The event was held on 20th November, 2017.
